Re-membering

Women, we need to put back together the pieces of ourselves we have lost.

In Clarissa Pinkola Estes book "Women Who Run With the Wolves" she tells the story of Skeleton Woman, a woman who is killed by her father, thrown over a cliff, and left on the rocks in a broken pile of bones, soon washed away by the sea. A fisherman accidentally catches her, runs away terrified and drags her home behind him as they are both tangled in the net. Once home he takes pity on Skeleton Woman and reassembles her. She then becomes an alive woman once more. "Re-member"

Members are limbs and when we remember we are putting together our pieces again.

You were born whole and perfect. Which is amazing news because it means we have all the answers within ourselves already.

Which parts of you have you lost in order to survive in the world? Your softness, your gentleness, your loving heart? Or maybe your assertiveness and fierceness which you learned was unacceptable? Have you lost that pride in your body which is capable of so many wonderful things, that enables you to experience all the sensual pleasures of human life?

Which parts are calling you to bring them back to life?

For me, I learned to live in a state of anger and fear because I felt that it was not safe to live in this world as a woman. I began to remember what it was like to be playful, to laugh, to dance, to go with the flow instead of bracing myself for the next attack.

What would the little girl you were want you to remember?
